It’s Okay to be Unsure About Your Life.

Snapseed 3Snapseed 5

I recently had a bit of a freak out over my life. I suddenly realised that I no longer want to do what I’ve been planning to do over the last few years. I wanted to give up on everything I had worked towards.

I’ve wanted to be a makeup artist for so long, and I spent a good few years in college studying and training to be a makeup artist, and I absolutely loved doing it. I learnt everything from fashion, beauty, face and body painting, special effects and hair styling, and I love being so creative and artistic all the time. Yet after taking a year off before going to uni, I suddenly came to the realisation that I don’t want to do this as a career. I don’t want to go to university for 3 years and spend thousands and thousands of pounds on something that I no longer love. That would be a waste.

Telling my mum that I had changed my mind was awful, but in the end I had no reason to stress as she was so supportive of my choice. She genuinely wants what is best for me, and if I’m not happy then why should I continue with it for another 3 years.

So the question is now, what do I want to do? And the answer is I have no idea! I’m 22 and I have no idea what I want to do with my life, which kind of stressed me out to start with.

Over the last couple of days I started to piece my life together and figure out what I want to do, and for the now I don’t want to give myself a solid plan. Like I said, I’m 22 and in the grand scheme of things, thats not old at all. I have years to figure myself out, so I’m going to take it step by step.

For now my plan is to get myself a full time job, and save money. One of the things I’m desperate to do is go travelling. I’ve seen some of Europe throughout my life, but I want to see more. So at the moment, my plan is to interrail around Europe in the summer of 2019. That gives me a year and a half to save my money, and have the experience of a life time. I’m going to talk more about my travelling plans in a separate blog post, so keep an eye out for that. Other than that, I want to work a lot on this blog. I absolutely love blogging, and writing whats on my mind, so hopefully this blog will become bigger and better. And if i do go travelling that will make for some amazing content, which I’m already excited to write!

So the purpose of this post is to basically say that its okay to not know what you want to do. These things will come to you in time, and I’m okay with waiting for that moment.

August Birch Box.

Another month, Another Birchbox. This month the theme of the box is ‘Mermaid Vibes’. The design of this box is so gorgeous, and the products inside are just was lovely!

The first product, and the most exciting is a Spectrum Makeup Brush! Previous to the box being sent out I had the option of which brush I wanted to have. I chose the Glam Clam‘ style brush as the colours are so gorgeous. The brush is the A05, and is a perfect bronzer/blush brush. I’m so excited to use this.

Next is the LOCOut of your shell‘ eyeshadow stick. The colour is a really pretty champagne shade, which would look stunning in the inner corners of the eye. This feels super creamy in texture and I’m looking forward to trying this out.

Nest up is the Number 4 Sugar Texturising Spray’I think this is used in the same way a salt spray would be used, by spraying it onto styled hair to add texture and Oomph to your look. I’m looking forward to trying this out.

Another really exciting product is the NUXE Multi-Usage Dry Oil Shimmer‘. I’m like a magpie when it comes to shiny things, so this really caught my eye. I can’t wait to coat my whole body in this and shine!

The last product is the Whish Renewing Mud Mask‘ which is an exfoliating mask, to help brighten and purify your skin. My skin is fairly dry at the moment so I’m not sure this will work well on my skin, but I’m defiantly going to give it a go!

Shopping My Stash

So as of right now, I’ve finished uni for the time being, and I’m working part time, meaning money is pretty tight at the moment. It’s gotten to the point now where I’m not really able to treat myself to new bits of makeup whenever I feel like it, and splurging on some new clothes. So I’m taking the opportunity to go through my humongous stash of makeup and rediscover some bits that I used to love, and to try some products I’ve not really given a go yet.

The Bobbi Brown Long-wear Cream Shadow Sticks used to be a favourite of mine. I have three shades of these and I used to wear them all the time. They are perfect as a cream base for eyeshadow, or blended all over the lid for a really simple eye look. My favourite shade of this is ‘Golden Pink’ and I’m so excited to start using this again.

I purchased the Anastasia Beverly Hills Concealer on a whim and it ended up shoved at the back of my draw, having never been tried. I think now would be the perfect time to give it a go.

I bought the Bobbi Brown Shimmer Brick from Duty Free about a year ago, and I liked it quite a lot. It didn’t blow me away like other highlighters I’ve tried, but I’m up for giving it another go.

I bought the Urban Decay Gwen Stefani palette, again on a whim (I need to stop doing that), and I fell in love with it. This was my palette of choice for quite a few months, but then other palettes came in, and it got forgotten amongst the rest. I’m excited to use it again in my daily makeup routine.

Lastly is the Maybelline Fit Me foundation in the Matte finish. I don’t often wear matte foundations so I’m not really sure how this crept into my collection, but I’m up for giving it a go and seeing how I feel about it.

What products have you got stashed away in the bottom of your draws? Let me know in the comments.

Review | Garnier Summer Body Moisturising Lotion

I’m not a huge user of fake tan. I’ve always shied away from it, too scared that I’m going to end up orange and streaky. I’m fed up of being so pale now, and with my holiday just around the corner, I don’t want to be that person who turns up pale as can be, so I’ve been putting this Garner Summer Body Moisturising Lotion to the test over the last few weeks.

So the first thing I noticed that surprised me is that the actual lotion isn’t tinted. Its pretty much white in colour. I was expecting it to be quite tan/orange in colour as it was going to tan me, but I was pleasantly surprised.

The scent of this is lovely. The lotion contains Apricot extracts, so it smells super fruity and sweet, which I love!

So the lotion is said to; give 12 hours of moisture, gradually builds a natural looking tan, and is said to be fast absorbing. It does literally everything it says its going to. Its super moisturising and absorbs into the skin within a few minutes, which is something I always look for in a moisturiser. There’s nothing worse than having to hang around nearly naked waiting for your moisturiser to sink in before getting changed. As for the tan, within a few days of applying the lotion daily I was left with a gorgeous, sun-kissed tan, that looked completely natural. Even my mum commented on how nice the colour was.

So overall the moisturiser was a complete hit, and I’ve been using it non-stop since. I’m definitely going to be using it daily on the lead up to my holiday.

My Everyday Makeup | SimplyBeki

Even though I’m an absolute beauty addict and a makeup artist, I find doing my own makeup an absolute chore most days, so I’ve come up with an everyday makeup routine that takes me no time at all, and that looks good to.

So lets take a look at my everyday products…

For my base I always start off with the Too Faced Hangover Primer. Primer for me is an absolute must, especially if I’m going to be in work all day. This one helps to brighten my skin, and ensures my foundation goes on flawlessly. My everyday foundation changes all the time, depending on what kind of coverage I want on the day. For this particular day I used the Makeup Forever Ultra HD Foundation. This foundation gives a flawless finish, and is a medium coverage. My absolute favourite concealer is the Rimmel Match Perfection concealer. This covers my dark circles really well, whilst also highlighting under my eyes. This also doesn’t crease at all. To bronze up my skin I use the Chanel Soleil Tan De Chanel. This gives my skin a gorgeous, bronzy glow. And finally to set this all in place I use the Laura Mercier Loose Setting Powder.  This leaves my skin looking matte, and it feels so lightweight and smooth on the skin.

For contour and blush I’ve been loving my Sleek Contouring and Blush Palette in Light. This is a palette I constantly go back to, due to the pigmentation and blend-ability of all of the powders. This is my must have when I’m traveling. To highlight I’ve been obsessed with the NYX Strobe of Genius palette, especially the purple shade. Its not a subtle highlighter, but I absolutely love how different it is.

Moving onto eyes, I’ve been obsessed with the NARS Loaded Palette. I use the shade ‘Castille’ all over the lid and blended into the crease, and then a small amount of ‘Privilege’ on the centre of the lid and in the inner corners. Its a super simple look, but I love it. For mascara I’ve been loving the KIKO Maxi-Mod Mascara, which unfortunately was limited edition, and is no longer available. I love the small wand, as it gets all of my lashes covered, and it really adds loads of volume to my lashes.

My absolute favourite product for my brows is the Anastasia Dip Brow Pomade. I use the shade medium brown, and I fill in my brows using this. To set them in place I use the Sleek Brow Gel.

For lips I tend to switch it up depending on the day, but for the most part I will usually wear a nude shade. The one I’m wearing now is MAC Faux.

My Favourite Palettes | High End..

I’m a sucker for a good eyeshadow palette, and since studying makeup I’ve built up quite the collection of High End Palettes. I love a good neutral shade, but I also love a palette with a bit of colour and originality, and thats what I love about these four palettes.

The Anastasia Beverly Hills Modern Renaissance palette is a favourite among many people and for good reason! The orange and red tones in this palette are so beautiful and are perfect for the Autumn season. As you can see from the image above Primavera’ is a favourite of mine. I love using this shimmery champagne shade all over the lid, or just in the inner corners. I also adore the shade‘Burnt Orange’ all over my lid and blended out in the crease, on its own for a statement orange eye.

I was so excited when I saw the shades in the Too Faced Sweet Peach Palette. It has so many beautiful neutral shades, with a few more unusual colours thrown in too. I absolutely love the shade ‘Bless her heart’ which is a khaki green shade. This looks stunning blended on the lower lash line. ‘Luscious’ is a mother beautiful shade, which is perfect all over the lid. Not only are the colours of this palette gorgeous, but it also smells on Peaches which is amazing.

The Huda Beauty Rose Gold Palette is so beautiful! The pigmentation of this palette is amazing and the glitters are so good! ‘Black Truffle’ is honestly the best black eyeshadow I’ve ever used. The colour selection of these shadows are stunning. ‘Henna’ is my absolute fave from this palette, and ‘Flamingo’ is such a gorgeous bright colour if your feeling more daring.

The NARSissist Loaded palette is the newest addition to my collection, and probably my favourite out of all of these palettes. All of the shades are so wearable, and the pigmentation of these is insane. The shadows have such a creamy texture and blend out beautifully. My absolute favourite shade is ‘Castille’ which is a gorgeous warm, brown shade, which is perfect for an all over, everyday eye look.

Let me know if you’ve tried any of these palettes before and what you thought of them!

June Birchbox

I used to be obsessed with birchbox. I was subscribe for a good few years, but being an adult means that my money has to go elsewhere so I cancelled for a while. Seeing as I’m no longer in education I thought I would give it another go and try out some new products.

The theme of Junes Birchbox is ‘Day tripping’. The theme was inspired by Brighton’s beach huts and ice creams, and holiday destinations in the UK, which is where the idea of bringing out the ‘Birch Bag’ came about. The Bag is the perfect accessory for packing away all of you daily essentials for a trip somewhere in the UK.

So what’s inside Junes ‘Birch Bag’?!

First up is the Cowshed Cow Pat Hand Cream, which retails for £8. There is nothing I hate more than dry hands so this is perfect for me to throw in my handbag to use throughout the day. This hand cream is packed full of essential oils, such as grapefruit and coriander.

The next product is the Korres Milk Proteins 3 in 1 Cleansing Emulsion. I’ve never tried anything from Korres so I’m super excited to try this out, and it’s come at the perfect time as I’ve just ran out of my current cleanser! This cleanser is suitable for all skin types, and says it cleanses, tones and removes makeup. This retails for £15. Keep an eye out for a review coming soon!

birchbox eyeliners

The eyeliner I received is from the brand Arrow. It’s a brand I’ve never heard of before so I’m excited to try this out. The Enhance Waterproof eyeliner is a nude-coloured eyeliner that is said to instantly brighten tired looking eyes. It’s also Vegan and Cruelty-free which is amazing! Mine is in the shade ‘Bright Now’ and it retails for £12.

I also received the brow liner from the brand MeechNMia, again another brand I’ve never heard of. I received mine in the shade #21, which is think is going to be too light for me, but I’ll give it a go! This retails for £12.99.

As I am ‘new’ to Birchbox, having not had it for a few years, I got to receive a free gift for subscribing. I chose the Ciate Fierce Flicks eyeliner. This is a felt-tip applicator, which is not my favourite, but I’m still excited to give it a go! This retails for £15.

Birchbox body scrub

The last product I received is what I’m most excited to try out! I’ve seen the Scrub Love Coffee Body Scrub floating around Instagram for quite a while, but I’ve never got around to trying it, so when I saw it was in this Bag I was so excited. This scrub is made using 100% natural ingredients, and it smells of coffee, which I love! It’s said to buff away all of the dead skin cells, whilst also hydrating the skin. This retails for £11.95. Keep an eye out for a review of this coming soon!

Let me know if you’ve tried Birchbox before, and also any other beauty subscription boxes you recommend!

What’s In My Bag

I’m such a nosy person, so I love being able to have a mooch through peoples bags to see what they carry with them on a daily basis, which is what inspired me to write this blog post.

I used to carry a huge handbag with me on a daily basis which I filled with useless crap that I didn’t need. When I found this Michael Kors Selma Satchel bag I fell in love with its simplicity and classic look, and knew I had to have it. I got it in the medium size which is the perfect size for fitting all of my essentials in, and also meaning I don’t have any room for the things I don’t need.

So lets take a look at what I carry with me on a daily basis…

So starting with my purse. I used to carry a card holder with me, but it annoyed me having nowhere to put my change so I switched back to my purse. This particular one from Michael Kors isn’t available anymore as its quite old, but it works perfectly for me.

I always carry a notebook around with me. This particular one is from Home Sense, and I love carrying note books to jot down any lists, thoughts, blog ideas etc. I come up with thought out day.

my favourite scent is Victories Secret Love Spell. I have two bottles of this so I always keep one in my bag to use throughout the day. This scent is so sweet and summery and I really love it.

Sunglasses are an essential for summer time! These ones are my favourite from Carvella.  I love big sunglasses so these ones are perfect for me.

I always have a lipstick at hand. My most worn at the moment is MAC Velvet Teddy. Its such a wearable, everyday shade.

Lastly a few essentials that I always have at hand; mints, headphones, tissues and hand cream. These are products I always use and defiantly miss if i don’t have them with me.

What’s your one essential you have to have with you on a daily basis?!

Review | NARSissist Loaded Palette

This is the most dreamy palette I have ever owned! The NARS Loaded palette consists of 12 beautiful neutral shades, in a variety of matte and shimmer formulas.

I was pretty hesitant to buy this due to the hefty price tag, but its a limited edition palette and being a makeup artist I felt like I had to have it.

As I mentioned before the palette is full of gorgeous neutral shades, all of which I have already used, and each one is as beautiful as it looks. Each shade has such a creamy, easily bendable formula, and I’ve had little to no fall out from the darker shades.

I’ve used this palette on clients already and each look has been stunning. The colours are so versatile. You can create a stunning, everyday look as well as a dark, vampy evening look.

Can we also just take a moment to appreciate the packaging of this palette?! A little impractical, yes, but so stunning! The mirrored effect is pretty handy, and its gold! So whats not to love!

Honestly, this is one of the best palettes I own, and I’m so glad I bit the bullet and bought it!

My Holy Grail Products

Throughout my years of experimenting with makeup and skincare, I’ve come across some products that I love, some I hate and some that are somewhere in between. Being a makeup artist I’m constantly changing the products I’m using on a daily basis, and with so many new products coming out all the time I constantly switching up what I’m using, but over the years there have been a few products that I can never part with, that I just keep going back to and I absolutely adore. So lets delve into said products…

So lets start with skin care. I absolutely adore skin care, and I’m one of those people who believe that spending more on skincare will help to achieve a clearer complexion. The Kiehl’s Hydro-Plumping Re-Texturizing Serum Concentrate is AMAZING. Before using this I suffered from fairly dry skin and this has transformed my skin from dry and dull looking, to moisturised and healthy looking. All you need is one pump per use, which is around a pea sized amount and pat it into your skin. It instantly makes your skin appear plumper and healthier, and I love it.

When it comes to face masks I feel like LUSH always pull through. Their masks are amazing! In particular the Cup O’Coffee one. Not only does it smell like coffee (DUHHH) but it literally makes my skin feel like silk! It’s full of exfoliating beads which I rub into my skin when i remove the mask, and it buffs away all of the dry skin, and leaves my face feeling soft and silky. I LOVE it.

So not quite skin care, but the Crabtree and Everlyn hand creams are my absolute fave! They are sooooo moisturising and don’t leave an oily, greasy film on the hands. They sink into the skin so quickly and the range of scents are insane! I’ve not tried one that I don’t like yet!

So moving onto makeup! My Holy Grail foundation is without a doubt the Chanel Vitalumiere Aqua. This foundation goes onto my skin flawlessly. No other foundation I’ve tried has come close to this. It gives me the perfect amount of coverage; not to light, yet not too heavy. It feels so lightweight on my skin, doesn’t crease and it stays put pretty much all day, which is something no other foundation seems to do. No matter how many foundations I try, I always go back to this. Keeping with the Chanel theme another Holy Grail product of mine is the Soleil Tan De Chanel. This is a cream bronzer that is so beautiful. The colour is the perfect bronze shade for summer and the formula of this goes onto the skin beautifully. This is a product I bring out of hiding every summer without fail. I’m probably due another tub of this now, seeing as I’ve had it a good few years now, but I can’t bring myself to part with it.

Lastly is a fairly new product to my collection, but one I’m already sure is going to stick around for a long time. The Too Faced Hangover Primer is the perfect primer for my skin. Its super moisturising and really plumps up my skin. It helps my foundation go on so smoothly and keeps it looking great all day. I even love wearing this without foundation as it really does brighten up my complexion and really helps my skin look more healthy.

So there’s a round up of my Holy Grail products, the products I couldn’t live without!

Let me know if you’ve tried any of them before and what your thoughts are on them!
