Solait Mousse Express Dark Tan | Review

DSC_3716

Being as pale as I am naturally, I love applying a good fake tan! I’ve tried quite a few over the years, some good and some not so good. I’ve always steered clear of the cheaper tans, worried that they will turn me into a streaky, orange mess, but I decided to eventually give this one a go!

I picked the Solait Express Dark Tan Mousse up in Superdrug for only £4.99, which compared to the tans I usually buy is such a bargain! This is a 60 minute tan, although I would suggest leaving it on for up to 2 hours if you want a dark tan.

I was really apprehensive about using this, as I mentioned earlier I was worried that a cheap tan would leave me streaky and orange. When I applied this with a mitt I was really worried. The tan seemed to go on quite streaky, and wasn’t drying down well at all. Every time I rubbed the tan in, it seemed to move around rather than blend into the skin. I decided to carry on applying anyway and tanned my whole body as I usually would. The colour of it was a lovely golden brown though, so I was pleased to know I wouldn’t be orange for the foreseeable future.

With most tans I would leave it to dry for about 5 minutes before getting dressed, but this one seemed to take ages to dry, and it definitely transferred onto my clothes.

As I mentioned earlier it is a 60 minute tan, but I always like to leave my tans on longer than suggested, as I like them to be darker, so I left my tan on for 2 hours and went about my daily routine.

After two hours I washed off the tan in the shower and I was left with a thankfully streak free, even, golden tan. I was genuinely really shocked that a £4.99 fake tan gave me similar results to a £20+ tan. The only downside was a really strong tan scent, stronger than you would get with the more expensive tans, but thats something I can ignore easily enough. I’m currently 4 days into wearing the tan as I write this and my skin is still looking golden and I’ve not had any patchiness appear. I’ll definitely be purchasing this again!

My Current Beauty Favourites

I’ve found myself not as into makeup as I’ve always been lately. I’ve had a lot more makeup free days, than days wearing makeup. That being said when I do wear makeup I’ve been going back to the same few products over and over again.

DSC_3732

As a base I’ve been loving the Sleek Lifeproof Foundation. This is a medium coverage foundation, but I’ve been wearing a light layer of it, and its helped to even out my skin tone, and it makes my skin look fresh and natural. I’ve really been trying to embrace my skin lately, and I’ve finally got a skin care routine that I love and is working for me, so this foundation has been great at showing my natural skin, but also evening out my uneven skin tone.

Along side that, I’ve been loving the ColourPop No Filter Concealer. This is such a creamy concealer, with great coverage, which is perfect for me as my under eye circles are SO bad. This also does not crease on me at all, which is rare in a concealer! The only downside is that it oxidises quite a bit, but I find once its been blended in its really not that noticeable. Just go for a shade lighter than you think you’d need.

The last makeup product I’ve really been loving is the Maybelline Fit Me Matte+Poreless pressed powder. I’ve really struggled to find a powder that I can use under my eyes to set my concealer, that doesn’t look cakey or crease instantly, but this one is perfect. I apply it using a power puff and I press it into my skin, and brush away the excess. This has been working so perfectly for me and its so cheap too!

DSC_3729

As I mentioned earlier I’ve found a skin care routine that I’ve been absolutely loving lately, and pretty much all of it is from L’Oreal. The first product I’ve been loving is the Hydra Genius Aloe Water Moisturiser. I’ve been loving this as it’s a gel, rather than a cream and it feels so much lighter on my skin, but still gives my skin the moisture it needs.

The next product is the Smooth Sugars Glow Scrub. This smells incredible and has worked so well on my skin. I use it on dry skin to make it work more effectively, and it makes my skin feel so smooth and soft, but also gives it a really lovely glow. Its not a harsh scrub either, so it feels gentle on the skin, and not like its causing damage like other scrubs I’ve used in the past.

The last product I’ve been obsessed with the is Pure Clay Glow Mask. I use this alongside the Detox mask, which is also amazing. The Glow mask really helps to brighten the appearance of the skin and makes the skin feel so smooth, as it includes exfoliants in it which help to remove dry skin.

My skin has felt amazing, and my bank balance is pretty happy with it to, when compared to all of the Kiehls products I used to use. You can get amazing skin care for a small price and I’m so happy I’ve finally realised this.

A Valentines Makeup Look

IMG_0430

Happy Valentines Day!

I’m not a fan of Valentines Day at all, but I still got inspired by the day to create a pink themed makeup look, so I thought I would share with you how I created it.

IMG_0394

For my base I used the NARS Radiance Primer which gives the skin a gorgeous glowy look, and I then applied the Iconic London Foundation Stick, which I’ve really been loving lately. This gives a really full coverage look, but also manages to look quite natural and dewy on the skin. I used the Rimmel Match perfection concealer, and I cream contoured using a Primark Concealer stick in a dark shade. I set everything in place with the Laura Mercier Translucent Powder, and bronzed my face with the Estee Lauder Bronze Goddess Bronzer. For blush I used a Kiko cream blush in the shade Rebel Bouncy. This is quite a dark pink shade, that gives a gorgeous natural blush to the cheeks. Finally to highlight I used a mixture of the Anastasia Beverly Hills Gleam                  Glow kit, and the Kat Von D Alchemist Palette.

IMG_0409Moving onto the eye’s the main product I used was the Huda Beauty Rose Gold Palette. I thought this would be the perfect palette for a pink, Valentines inspired look as the shades are perfect for it. I used the shade ‘Shy’ as a transition shade through the crease, an then I used the shade ‘Flamingo’ to deepen the crease. I used the shade ‘Moon Dust’ on a flat brush with Fix+ to pack onto the eye lids. The Fix+ is great at intensify shimmery shades. I finally used the shade’s ‘Bossy’ and ‘Man-eater’ to deepen the outer crease of the eye, and to blend the shimmer. I added ‘shy’ and ‘Flamingo’ onto the lower lash line, taking it quite far down to smoke out the look. I used the shade ‘Pink Opal’ from the Kat Von D Alchemist palette in the inner corners, and I applied the Eylure Enchanted lashes.

IMG_0410For my brows I used my absolute favourite product- The Anastasia Beverly Hills Dipbrow, in the shade Dark brown. I absolutely love this as it makes my brows look so defined. Finally for my lips I used Jeffree Star liquid lipstick in Doll Parts with a Tanya Burr lipgloss in the shade ‘DayDream’  on top.

Shopping My Stash | January

DSCN1617

One of my goals for 2018 is to save money, and not spend my money on unnecessary things . So having said that I’ve decided to start ‘Shopping My Stash’. By this I mean, going through my makeup draws, wardrobe and beauty stash and using the products I already have, but barely use.

I have so much makeup, and loads of clothes that I never wear so each month I’m going to make a conscious effort to use things I wouldn’t normally in the hopes that I will re-dicover old favourites and save money during the process.

For my January/February makeup draw I decided to pull out The Rimmel Match Perfection Foundation, Sleek Contouring and Blush Palette, Nars Laguna bronzer,MAC Blankey Lipstick and The Morphe 35W Palette.

I forgot how much I loved the Rimmel Match perfection Foundation! I use the concealer on a daily basis, which I love, and used with the foundation works so lovely on my skin. The coverage is medium, but its build able, and although the shade is a bit light, it works well on my skin type.

The Sleek Contour and Blush Palette is one I have loved time and time again. It’s the perfect palette for travelling as I love and use all three of the shades! The bronzer/contour shade is very similar to the Benefit Hoola, the blush is the perfect dupe for NARS Orgasm and the Highlight is so pretty! I could happily live with just this palette for the rest of my life!

NARS Laguna bronzer was a favourite of mine for a while, before I replaced it with Estee Lauder Bronze Goddess. Since pulling it out I’ve fallen in love with it again. It’s such a good shade for me, and I love the slight shimmer running through it.

The L’Oreal True Match Powder is okay. I bought this when I ran out of my Laura Mercier  Powder, and it worked well for me, but I will be sticking to my favourite Laura Mercier Loose Setting Powder.

I’ve not been loving lipstick for quite a while now. I’ve been more than happy to wear a full face of makeup, without any lipstick on, but I’m ready to get out of that habit! I’ve decided to pull out MAC ‘Blankety’ lipstick, as its such a gorgeous nude shade, and its a creamy finish which is my preferred lipstick type. I’ve really been enjoying wearing this again lately.

Lastly for makeup is the Morphe 35W Palette. I bought this ages ago and never really used it. I have so many palettes in my collection that loads tend to get forgotten. This has some lovely shades in and I’ve actually had some lovely comments on my eye makeup since using this, so I’ve been really enjoying this.

Huda Beauty | Warm Brown Obsessions Palette

IMG_0793IMG_0796IMG_0820

I definitely squealed a little bit inside when I saw the teasers for the new Huda Beauty mini palettes on trendmoon! I already own the Huda Beauty Rose Gold palette, so I knew if these were any way as good as that then I would love it!

There are four different palettes to choose from- The Smokey Obsessions Palette, The Warm Brown Obsessions Palette, The Mauve Obsessions Palette and The Electric Obsessions Palette. I was instantly drawn to the gorgeous warm tones of the Warm Brown Palette, and I knew that it would become a staple in my everyday makeup routine.

These palettes retail for an affordable £25 each which I think for the quality, and the brand in general is pretty reasonable, and you can purchase Huda Beauty products from Cult Beauty.

When the palette arrived I was surprised by how small it was. I don’t know why but I was expecting it to be a lot bigger than it is, but now looking at it, it is the perfect size- especially for travelling! The palette comes with a pretty good mirror, and the nine shades, in reasonably sized pans.

So moving onto the actual shades. The palette consists of 8 matte shades, and one shimmer, which I think is okay. I personally really love an all matte eyeshadow look at the moment, so this wasn’t a problem for me at all.

The top row has a Deep Burgundy shade, a bright orange and a dark red (it looks more bright in the swatches). All of these swatched really well. The pigment is really strong and they felt really creamy.

The middle row has a really dark, chocolate brown, a super shimmery gold, and a creamy white. The brown is perfect for deepening up the crease, and the pigment of this is really good. The gold shimmer swatched amazingly! As you can see in the images the pigment is so strong, and it looks so vibrant and bright. I cannot wait to play around with this. As for the creamy white, its the perfect shade to put all over the lid, to set any eye primer you use, and to neutralise the lid.

The bottom row has a peachy, pink shade, a light brown and a rusty red. Again these all swatched really well, the pigment was really strong on all of the shades. The light brown shade is the perfect transition shade for the crease, and the rusty red is such a pretty shade. I can see myself using it a lot.

IMG_0131_Facetune_12-01-2018-20-02-12

So here is a makeup look I created using this palette. I love how the palette performed on the eyes. The colours were pigmented and blended out so easily. The gold shimmer is so intense and pretty, and I absolutely love it. Overall I’m super happy with the palette, and it’s definitely going to be a good one for everyday wear.

My Kiehls Skin Care Favourites

SnapseedIMG_0042IMG_0022

Skin Care to me is such a huge part of my daily routine. It’s always been something I have loved and been fascinated by, but I’ve always struggled to find something that really works for my skin. My skin is so up and down, and I never know whether it wants to be dry or oily, or a bit in-between, so I need products to help balance it out.

For the longest time I’ve always used cheap, drugstore brands, which are great, but I’ve found they don’t do an awful lot for my skin personally, so I started looking into more high end skincare brands to see if they can make an improvement. I’ve used products from Liz Earl, Estee Lauder, Emma Hardie, the lot, and I’ve not fallen in love with any of them, until I tried Kiehls.

I’m not 100% sure what initially made me want to try Kiehls, but I remember my first product from them being the Creamy Eye Treatment with Avocado, which I bought in an airport in the South of France, and I instantly fell in love with it. The eye cream really helps to plump up the skin around my eyes, and helps to make me look more awake, which is essential for me with the dark circles I have under my eyes.

This product started off an amazing, yet expensive addiction for me. From there on I went on to try the Ultra Facial Cleanser and the Hydro-Plumping Re-Texturizing serum Concentrate. The Ultra Facial Cleanser is a creamy cleanser, that when massaged into the skin with water, foams up and makes my skin feel really firm and well cleansed. I don’t use this to remove my makeup, as I find it quite sensitive to use around my eyes, but as a second cleanser I couldn’t recommend it enough. As for the Hydro-Plumping Re-Texturizing Serum Concentrate- This is THE BEST product I’ve ever used on my skin. This serum gives instant results to the skin, making the skin appear more plump, hydrated, radiant and smooth. I stopped using this for a while after I ran out of my first bottle, and my skin had a freak out. I cannot live without this.

Following this came the Ultra Facial Moisturiser and the Midnight Recovery Concentrate. The Ultra Facial Moisturiser is perfect for dry skin. Its not heavy on the skin, but gives the skin instant and lasting moisture. This is one of the only moisturisers I have repurchased time and time again. The Midnight Recovery Concentrate is such a cult product for Kiehls, which is what made me want to try it. The thought of putting oil on my skin scared me a lot initially, but it works wonders! I use 2 drops of this and I press it into the skin at the end of my skin care routine. This, similar to the hydro-Plumping serum gave instant results. When I wake up in the morning my skin looks fresh and radiant.

I’ve recently started using the Daily Reviving Concentrate, which again is so good. I use this in the same way as I do the Midnight Recovery Concentrate, but at the end of my day time routine. This gives really similar results as the night time one, and has the most lovely scent of lemons. Its so refreshing to put on my skin in the morning.

The last two products I use are new to me, and I only have them in mini’s. The first is the Calendula Herbal-Extract Toner, which so far I’m really enjoying using. I’m also using the Iris Extract Activating Treatment Essence. I’m not 100% sure of the purpose of this product, I got given it as a freebie, but it feels really lovely on my skin, and I’m excited to see how my skin looks over the next few weeks with using this.

Have you tried anything from Kiehls? Whats your favourite, and what products do you want to try out?

KatVonD Cardiff Blogger Event

I love a beauty blogger event. The chance to meet new bloggers, try new brands and products, and the goodie bags are always a plus too! When I found out Kat Von D were opening a counter in Debenhams in Cardiff I was so excited! And of course with the new counter came a beauty blogger event, for all of us Cardiff girls to try out some Kat Von D products!

The event was a ticketed event, and the tickets cost £5 each, but you could then redeem that £5 back on products, which is fine by me seeing as I had list of things to pick up.

We took our seats front row and the lovely MUA’s went though an awesome makeup demo using all of Kats products!

The demo started with the base makeup, created by the lovely Dom. Dom created a flawless looking base using the Lock-it Hydrating Primer mixed with the famous Metal Crush Eyeshadow in the shade ‘Thunderstruck’. This gave the skin a really gorgeous, glowy complexion, and was the perfect base to apply the Lock-it foundation on top. She demoed how to use the Shade and Light palette in a really natural way to give the face some really subtle structure, and then finished the base by using ‘Thunderstruck’ again as a highlight.

katvond6

Allies was next up to create a really cool, high fashion eye look. To create the eye look she used the Everlasting Liquid Lipsticks in the shades ‘Roxy’, ‘Echo’ and ‘A-Go-Go’. I loved that she used the liquid lipsticks as its such a different take on the regular eye makeup look. It showed just how versatile the products were. She started off by applying Roxy all over the lids and bleeding it out. Once that had started to dry she added Echo to random areas of the eye, not really keeping to a specific look, but rather just going with the flow. The two colours started to mix slightly creating a gorgeous dark purple shade. Once this had dried she applied A-Go-Go using a mascara wand. This was a really interesting technique to learn as the mascara wand gave a really different texture to what a brush would give. It really gave the look that ‘High Fashion’ feel to it. The neon orange really stood out against to two darker shades too. To finish the look she used the Alchemist palette and the Setting Spray to add a holographic look. This really tied the look together and it was what convinced me to buy the palette afterwards.

(Images taken from the KVDartistrycardiff Instagram page)

Overall the demo was really interesting and I picked up some many tips to use in the future.

Now onto what I bought and the Goodie bag!

So the one thing that was on the top of my shopping list was the Lock-it Concealer. I’ve never owned a High-end concealer before and I can definitely tell the difference between this and my collection one. This concealer is so thick and creamy, and covers all of my dark circles.

I then picked up a Liquid Lipstick in the shade ‘Ayesha’ which is a lilac purple shade, and its beautiful! Carry on reading to see a makeup look I created using it!

The last thing I bought is the ‘Alchemist palette‘. This is so beautiful, and so versatile too! It can be used as a highlighter, and also as eyeshadows, on the lips, anywhere you want to glow basically. Spray this with a little bit of fixing spray and Oh my, you will be blinded! This is being discontinued soon, so if you want it get it now!

Now onto the goodie bag! We got a travel sized Tattoo Liner which I’m so excited about! I’ve already used this and honestly, its the most incredible liner I’ve ever used. I find most liners leak and spread in my inner corners, but this didn’t do that at all. Amazing!

We also got samples of both fragrances, ‘Saint’ and ‘Sinner’. I much prefer Sinner out of the two, but both are gorgeous scents!

As soon as I got home I had to have a play with all of the products I got! I wanted to create a look really out of my comfort zone. I used a sample of the Lock-it foundation as a  base, and the Lock-it concealer to conceal and highlight.

For eyes I used the Liquid Lipstick in Ayesha and created a cut crease. I normally really struggle doing a cut crease with eye shadow, but I found it so easy using the liquid lipstick! I then used the Tattoo Liner to create a winged liner, and went over that with the Alchemist palette, ombreing the different shades along the line. I also used both the Liquid lipstick and the Alchemist palette on my lips.

Overall I love this look, and the event was such a great night! I’m looking forward the next one coming up soon!

Review|Scrub Love Body Scrub

I’ve seen the Scrub Love Body Scrubs all over Instagram, and its a brand I’ve wanted to try for ages, so when I saw that it was in the June Birchbox I was so excited to finally be able to try it out.

My first impression when I opened the bag was that the scrub didn’t feel like other scrubs I have used before. It was very dry, and almost soil like, so I was quite skeptical to use it.

scrublove

As you can see from the image above the texture of the scrub meant that it went everywhere! And I’m not even exaggerating, I was finding bits of it for days after. It was a very fine texture and I felt it didn’t exfoliate at all. I tried this on both dry and wet skin to see if one would be better than the other, and honestly both did not work at all. I felt like my legs were not exfoliated and all I was left with was a huge mess to clear up.

I had such high expectations for this and I was so disappointed when it completely didn’t live up to them. I’ll be sticking to my usual LUSH Rub, Rub, Rub for the time being.

Dream Destinations

If you know me, you’ll know that I love to travel. I love to wander around beautiful cities, taking in all of the beautiful sites and exploring all of the hidden places. Over the years I’ve been lucky enough to visit a fair few different places, but I do have a list of cities that I desperately want to go to and see.

New Orleans

I don’t know what it is about New Orleans, but everything about it just appeals to me. It look so beautiful and there sees to be so much history there. I feel like I could wander around for hours there without getting bored.

LA

LA has always been on my list of places to visit. Everything from the beaches, to the shopping looks amazing. There are so many iconic places to visit there, such as the Hollywood sign, Downtown LA, Disney and so many more. And of course there is also the chance of meeting a few celebrities whilst you’re there.

Amsterdam

Amsterdam looks so pretty. I know so many people who have been and have had nothing but good things to say about it. There are so many museums I would love to visit there, and I would love to ride a bike along the canal.

New York

I’ve already been to New York, and although I absolutely loved it, it rained and snowed the whole time I was there. So I would love the chance to see New York in the Spring/Summer and to get a whole different feel of the place. I would love to be able to spend a day wandering around Central Park, maybe have a picnic too.

Venice

I absolutely love Italy, having been to Rome already, and Venice is one of the cities I really wanted to go to. Everything from the food, to the canals looks beautiful.

Where would you like to go most in the world?! Also have you been to any of the places on my list? Would you recommend it?

Shopping My Stash

shoppingmystashshoppingmystash2

So as of right now, I’ve finished uni for the time being, and I’m working part time, meaning money is pretty tight at the moment. It’s gotten to the point now where I’m not really able to treat myself to new bits of makeup whenever I feel like it, and splurging on some new clothes. So I’m taking the opportunity to go through my humongous stash of makeup and rediscover some bits that I used to love, and to try some products I’ve not really given a go yet.

The Bobbi Brown Long-wear Cream Shadow Sticks used to be a favourite of mine. I have three shades of these and I used to wear them all the time. They are perfect as a cream base for eyeshadow, or blended all over the lid for a really simple eye look. My favourite shade of this is ‘Golden Pink’ and I’m so excited to start using this again.

I purchased the Anastasia Beverly Hills Concealer on a whim and it ended up shoved at the back of my draw, having never been tried. I think now would be the perfect time to give it a go.

I bought the Bobbi Brown Shimmer Brick from Duty Free about a year ago, and I liked it quite a lot. It didn’t blow me away like other highlighters I’ve tried, but I’m up for giving it another go.

I bought the Urban Decay Gwen Stefani palette, again on a whim (I need to stop doing that), and I fell in love with it. This was my palette of choice for quite a few months, but then other palettes came in, and it got forgotten amongst the rest. I’m excited to use it again in my daily makeup routine.

Lastly is the Maybelline Fit Me foundation in the Matte finish. I don’t often wear matte foundations so I’m not really sure how this crept into my collection, but I’m up for giving it a go and seeing how I feel about it.

What products have you got stashed away in the bottom of your draws? Let me know in the comments.
